Los Cristianos? cuisine is not limited to just canarian food. There is such a mix of people living together here that you will find food from nearly every place of the world. Of course, you will be able to find traditional food from the Canary Islands and the rest of Spain here, but also from places that are lot further away, the orient, India, Morocco and the UK.

Typical dishes in Los Cristianos are mostly based on fish and grilled meats. The best fish dish you?ll get to taste is called ?Vieja?. It is a very tasty white fish that is traditional to the islands. The most typical meat is goat, which we eat in different ways, fried, stewed or grilled.

The most popular side dish is ?papas arrugadas y mojo?. They are small, whole potatoes boiled in very salty water. They used to use sea water as it was easier to cook them this way because there was so much more sea water available than fresh water. Because they are cooked in so much salt, when you drain them the salt makes the skin crinkle, hence the name; wrinkled potatoes.

We don?t know the origin of mojo sauce but it?s the stay of canarian food. It is a must when eating papas arrugadas. Even though there are more than 20 different versions of mojo sauce, normally you will find two types, red or green. Red mojo or picón is made with a mix of spicy pimento, cumin, garlic, oil and vinegar. Green mojo is made with coriander, garlic, oil and vinegar. That said each restaurant has its own variation of the same sauce. The best papas arrugadas and mojo you?ll ever eat are without a doubt in Ifonche, a town some 10km from Los Cristianos.

No tourist has ever come to Los Cristianos and left without trying papas arrugadas or mojo. And they are the first thing returning tourists always ask for when they come back to the islands.

But Los Cristianos cuisine is not limited to Canarian food. You can eat Spanish, British or Asian food too. Chinese food is a favourite in Los Cristianos as it is in most of the world. British food is abundant here too, as is French and German food, as so many visitors from these countries have left their gastronomical stamp here. And there are Moroccan, Lebanese and African restaurants too.

And we don?t just have traditional old style cooking. We have chefs with Michelin stars to their name on the island too. The Martín Berasategui in the Abama hotel has 1 Michelin star.
