Located on the south coast of Tenerife in the county of Arona, Los Cristianos is an ideal place to spend your holidays as a couple or as a family, with loads of things to do.
Los Cristianos has a large selection of accommodation such as hotels, apartments and aparthotels in which to spend our precious holiday time. Not only is there such a wide range of accommodation but also accommodation to suit every pocket. We have cheap accommodation like hostels to luxury five star hotels. Having said that it is a quiet little town ideal for both families traveling with children and couples alike.
Los Cristianos in its past used to be a sleepy little fishing village and has grown in popularity as a thriving holiday destination. With over 20,000 inhabitants it is known for being modern without having lost any of its traditional charm. In 1955 our town still hadn't found its name as a tourist destination, with beautiful sunshine and beaches, until a Swedish man suffering from Multiple Sclerosis arrived and was amazed by the curing properties of the sunshine and sea. From that moment onwards the cries rang out that this town was a perfect holiday destination and has helped it to get the name it has now as a holiday destination.
Being the first of the towns in the south of Tenerife to exploit tourism, Los Cristianos is not as modern as its newer sisters like Las Americas and Costa Adeje. That said the government of Arona is constantly spending money to update and renovate all the communal areas in our destination. The new promenade is beautiful, with nearly 6 kilometers on which you can walk, right next to the sea with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. Thanks to innovations like that our destination is also one of the best places in Europe to come on holiday if you have reduced mobility.
In the center of the town, and still the focus of all the inhabitants is the church square. Painted in bright white, the clock chimes out the hour, which is the only indication that time actually passes in our sleepy little town. The town square is the focus of all the fiestas and concerts that are put on here.
The soul of our town is located in the church. The older members of the town meet to remember the old times while the children ride their bikes and skateboards and their parents gossip.
All of this happens while they are surrounded by curious tourists fascinated by the relaxed way of life here in our sleepy town.
The town is only a short 15 minute journey from the south airport (Reina Sofia) and 50 minutes from the north airport (Los Rodeos). We have some astounding blonde sandy beaches and we enjoy a spring time climate all year round.
Our town has a little bit of something for everyone, it is full of shops selling souvenir items and essentials, but especially discounted alcohol and cigarettes.
The sea which gave life to our town is still a major dominating factor. You can see the large ferries and boats taking people to the other canary islands reigning over the small fishing vessels and kayaks. Even the port is full of people selling tickets to go and see the whales and dolphins or to go deep sea fishing. The fisherman unload their nets next to people mounting kayaks to go and explore the caves in the cliffs at the end of the promenade. On days when the wind favors them we can even see people flying paragliders off of the cliffs and taking advantage of the cool sea breeze that is always here to refresh us.
